I am enjoying this unit with the students. I have some extra resources for extension activities if you would like to have some. Also I bought a great story of Moses which the students enjoyed. It was 50 minutes so compact enough for one lesson with scaffold questions.
Some things we have been doing include:
Practising the 4th commandment - students have to explain what deeds or acts of service they have done to honour their parents.
A Children's Story of Exodus - students have taken one chapter of the book of Exodus and made it into a story - the artwork has been great!
Seder Meal - there is a great resource in TO KNOW LOVE AND WORSHIP. Building on this, I have asked students to role play the Passover traditions and make a poster of the seder meal in small groups. Cooperative learning groups have been a positive for Year 8s.
Nabil and I are planning a surprise for Year 8 - more on this coming up! If you would like to be involved please let me know.
We have been using literacy saturation around the classroom - glossary terms are up on different coloured sheets of paper with pictures drawn by the students - they are getting better with spelling which is great.
Please feel free to add some ideas - thanks.

Year 8 - People of the Covenant
Since beginning this unit with Year 8, they have been saturated with visual aids, performances in regard to scriptural analysis rather than the standard writing and evaluating, as well as a variety of practical lessons. This form of learning has allowed students the confidence to develop social skills and appreciate the individual qualities that they each possess.
The Assessment task took students about a period to take hold and embrace. As it was new to them, and they were unsure as to how 'Group' work could be evaluated on an assessment level. It has been fantastic to watch students develop and become stronger participants in the classroom, and be able to 'Have a voice' in a situation where they would normally be silent, and wait until they were called upon.
I believe that although this task has been good for students, it needs to be more challenging, and also written tasks, on an individual basis would need to be conducted as well.
